Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process as the skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity. While aging gracefully is the dream, cosmetic treatments such as dermal fillers can help lift the skin and reduce wrinkles to minimize the signs of aging. Let's review different types of dermal filler and how they work on wrinkles.
Dermal fillers are soft tissue substances injected under the skin to increase fullness and volume. Wrinkles form gradually with the reduction in natural oils on the surface of the skin and fats in the deep layers. Dermal fillers work by serving as a replacement for the lost fats under the skin, creating a smoother and more plump appearance.
The lip filler procedure takes between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your desired outcome. Your lips will be numbed before the injection to minimize pain. The numbing cream may take about 15-30 minutes to take effect before the procedure can begin.
The most common use of dermal fillers is on facial creases, although they can also be used on other parts of the body. Your medical provider will administer a specific type of filler at different depths depending on the targeted area and desired outcome. The different types of facial fillers include:
Restylane®. Restylane® is an injectable form of hyaluronic acid — a natural substance produced in the body and responsible for moisturizing joints and the skin. Restylane® is used to treat mild to severe wrinkles, and most common for nasolabial folds. We have different Restylane® treatments, including:
Hyaluronic acid treatments such as Restylane® can last up to 18 months and break down naturally because they're biocompatible with the human body.
Juvederm®. Much like Restylane®, Juvederm® is also an injectable hyaluronic acid, except that it's smoother in consistency and easily absorbs into the tissues. The smoother consistency makes Juvederm® ideal for wrinkles in tight areas such as:
Juvederm® treatments provide natural-looking results that typically lasts up to a year, although results can vary from person to person.
Radiesse®. Radiesse® is made from calcium hydroxyapatite, which is a form of calcium found in bones, and is used to address larger areas of volume loss and facial creasing. The treatment works by volumizing and lifting problem areas while stimulating natural collagen production. This provides more natural and longer-lasting results for up to 12 months or more.
Sculptra®. Sculptra® is said to be one of the most natural and effective treatments for wrinkles and facial creases. The treatment contains poly-L-lactic acid, which works by increasing natural collagen production. Results from Sculptra® treatment are not immediate, but can last up to two years once visible.
